Hi, I'm Preston 👋

Senior software engineer focused on backend systems, developer tooling, and platform engineering. I build TypeScript/Node.js and Python services, and I'm happiest when I'm collapsing duplicated systems into shared, well-tested foundations that make other engineers faster.

Currently exploring senior IC roles in backend, platform, or developer experience engineering. Recent side quests: agentic development workflows, coding agents, local LLM apps, and document ingestion pipelines.

What I work with

Core: TypeScript · Node.js · Python · FastAPI · PostgreSQL · Docker · Kubernetes

Also: Go · React · GCP · AWS · Terraform · GitHub Actions · ArgoCD · RabbitMQ

Engineering principles

  • Prefer small over large
  • Prefer simple over complex
  • Prefer clarity over conciseness
  • Prefer common sense over common practice
  • Tests are what make change safe

Selected projects

  • spotme — CLI for keeping my Spotify library honest: finds unavailable and duplicate tracks in liked songs, drives playback. Python, pytest, published to PyPI via GitHub Actions.
  • smodg — generates Sequelize models from TypeScript type definitions, because nobody should hand-write ORM boilerplate. TypeScript, tested, on npm.
  • pdfcommentscraper2 — pulls annotations out of medical-record PDFs and turns them into chronological summaries. Python, pytest, release automation.
  • callapitter — terminal UI for composing, sending, and saving HTTP requests. Go.
  • yaml-check — validates Kubernetes manifest YAML before it reaches a cluster. Go.
