Description & Legal Notice

Dear Xiaomi Open Source Team,

We are writing to formally request the immediate release of the complete and corresponding kernel source code for the Redmi 13C (codename: gale/gust) specifically compiled for Android 15 utilizing the Linux kernel version 6.6.30-android15-8.

The Linux kernel is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 (GPLv2). Under the strict terms of this copyleft license, any entity that distributes a product containing modified or compiled binaries of the Linux kernel is legally obligated to make the complete, corresponding source code publicly available to its users.

By distributing the Android 15 update for the Redmi 13C without publishing the accompanying source tree, Xiaomi is currently not respecting the terms of the GNU GPLv2 license. This constitutes a direct license violation. Timely source release is a strict legal obligation under intellectual property laws, not an optional gesture toward the community.

Technical Requirements

To satisfy GPLv2 compliance and allow for community development, the release must be functional and include:

  1. Complete kernel source code matching the 6.6.30-android15-8 tree distributed to retail units.
  2. Complete and updated Device Tree Source (DTS) and hardware configurations (kernel_devicetree) for gale/gust.
  3. All underlying MediaTek (MTK) vendor platform and driver modules (including camera, display DRM, and touchscreen drivers) necessary to successfully compile a booting kernel image.

Impact on the Community

The missing source code halts the development of independent security audits, custom recoveries (TWRP/OrangeFox), and community-driven custom ROMs (such as LineageOS). The Android 15 upgrade shifted the device's kernel subsystem significantly, making older kernel source trees entirely obsolete for modern development.

We urge the Xiaomi Open Source development team to rectify this compliance issue immediately by pushing the relevant branch to the official MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource repository.
